Courier Rick Ruizendaal combines his passion for distance and planning
Courier Rick Ruizendaal (26) is no longer on the road full-time. “After working full-time as a courier for a year, I am now also a planner two days a week,” says the born and raised Terschuurder. Rick can be found in the office on Wednesdays and Thursdays, where he is involved in the planning for Gelder Logistics and for Spyder Couriers and Transport.
Regular transport, express transport, and combined trips
“My activities are varied. There are trips that we plan in advance, but also urgent trips. There is a lot of demand for express transport! We also combine shipments, which quickly results in savings for the customer. As a transport broker, we offer complete solutions, including connections, permits, and customs documents. These are full, pleasant days, when the phone is often ringing.” A contrast with the other days of the week, when Rick is on the road as a courier for Spyder. “I drive vans, buses, or caddys. And I am working on getting my truck driver’s license, so you can see me on one of the trucks in a while.” Rick definitely has a passion for driving. “I love driving long distances. In the Netherlands or abroad, anything is fine.” At the time of writing, the enthusiastic courier for Spyder is on his way to Wintelre, a village near Eindhoven. “I am now driving a combined transport. I first delivered a shipment in Veghel, and on the way back I am making a stop for a shipment here in North Brabant.”
Transport broker with a large network of carriers
The former bathroom delivery man came across a job opening at courier company Spyder, and is still glad he applied. In the meantime, the office work for Spyder and Gelder Logistics has been added, where Rick uses the transport broker’s large network for fully organized transportation solutions that often cross borders. “Gelder Logistics is a great company. Nice colleagues and everything is very well organized. And that is great for the customers and for all the partners with whom we work together as a transport broker.”
Rick’s passion for distance is also evident in his free time. “On my motorbike, a Kawasaki Z650, I’m on the road all Saturdays. I love taking long rides with a friend.” Are those also planned rides? “In my free time, I’m quite impulsive,” he laughs. “I get on the motorbike and see where I end up.”
